It is imperative to back up important files, especially in certain lines of work. You can simply copy the data to a secure location, but you risk copying the wrong files or simply forget to copy them at all. Cobian Backup is capable of backing up any data to a location on your hard drive or to a FTP server. It lets you schedule backup tasks to run automatically once or every day, week and so on. It offers everything you need to back up your files automatically. In this way, human error will not be a factor anymore and you can rest assured that one or more copies of your files will be available if something goes wrong.

You will have to make a few initial configurations during the setup process. You can choose to install Cobian Backup as an application with no auto start or with auto start for the current or all users and you can also install it as a service. You will have to create an account as well, which only requires typing a username and a password. Alternatively, you may click an option to use the local system account.

The software lets you create multiple backup tasks and run them immediately or at a later date. After executing one ore more tasks, you will still find them listed on the left side of the interface, so you can run them again at any time. You can also schedule your tasks to run automatically once, daily, weekly and so on, when a timer reaches zero or when the system is started.

New tasks are created and configured on a separate window, after clicking an option, on the interface's toolbar. When naming your task, you can also place it in a certain group, set it to include sub-folders, select a backup type, choose a full, differential, incremental or dummy backup and more. Other configurations can be made on the same window, but in different sections. You can select single or multiple source and destination folders or FTP servers, set the application to compress the files in a Zip or 7zip archive encrypt it, using various algorithms, include only certain files or exclude them and more.

It is also possible to set up automatic actions while configuring a task. You can select certain events like pausing the software, executing or closing a program, starting or stopping a service, shutting down the computer and others. You can select one ore more of these events to be executed before or after the backup process. You may also tick options to cancel the backup if your selected task fails or cancel a task if a pre-backup event fails.

Pros

You can make a wide range of settings for individual backup tasks. The software lets you execute a selected task or all of them at once, manually or schedule them to run automatically. You may also organize your tasks in separate groups, making it easier to find a specific one.

Cons

Although the software's logs can be printed, you can not export them as a file. Thanks to its smart features, you can focus on your work, knowing that Cobian Backup will automatically back up your important data, according to your configurations.
